In the courtyard of the Center, the atmosphere will be spirited by live music and tasty street food.
On the 4th floor, artists from Romania, Macedonia, Turkey, Australia and Peru
BAZIS Contemporary presents “Asphyxia”, the work of the Macedonian artist Zharko Basheski. What we see is face a terrified in asphyxiation, that of a man fighting for air under a plastic bag, while images of beautiful and pleasant memories pass through his mind (video projection). The mute scream of the choking man accuses the degrading world in which we live today, a world in which man can no longer live, the only thing left is just to struggle for another breath of air, in front of an unstoppable death machine. Bašeski’s work is also a protest against this world transformed into a landfill, over which cities full of toxic smoke appear as ghosts.
The second personal exhibition of the Peruvian Nicolás Lamas at the SABOT gallery, “Liminality”, offers a large installation, a space of “passage” Lamas builds thinking of liminality: using ready-made objects and assemblages set in ambiguous, transitory and recalibrational situations. All of these objects happen in time; some of them being steady, others ephemeral, all marked by still unclear meanings.
INTACT SPACE presents the personal exhibition “Atlas of the Unseen and Unspoken” of the artistic group A Constructed World, a group of two artists of Australian origin settled in Paris. Geoff Lowe and Jacqueline Riva often collaborate on projects with other artists, curators, writers, art historians, or philosophers, and their works incorporate speeches, conversations, philosophical texts, music, or songs. For the exhibition in Cluj, the two artists worked with Marie Gautier, curator.
After “Traces” in 2014 and “Architectures” in 2016, exhibitions presented at the BARIL Cluj Gallery, artist Arantxa Etcheverria proposes a third personal exhibition including two-dimensional objects and structures, painting and photography, all under the title “Vault“.
The project of Turkish artist Egemen Tuncer, “Workplanes”, presented at the CAMERA run-space of the artist Irina Dumitraşcu Magurean, consists of computer generated images (CGI), stop-frames that are recreated from a wider narrative previously captured by the artist in photos taken in his studio. The artist is rather concerned about his workspace than the actual work, the natural process and the composition used in the background or the materials that surround us and can be bought.
The series of exhibitions is organized by FGAFP and is part of the “Art as Center of Interest” program organized with the support of the City Hall and the Cluj-Napoca Local Council.

Exhibitions, projects and workshops open on each floor of the Center
After their summer residences at the Center of Interest, artists Barbara Navi and David Farcas will present to the Cluj public their works made in the workplaces provided by the Artists’ Association. The paintings of the French artist Barbara Navi will be exhibited at BAZIS Project Space (1st floor) within the exhibition “A room elsewhere, or the narrow escape”. Barbara’s painting is about fleeing, escaping, leaving the frame. An escape from real space, an eclipse of linear time, a call to the far side, where something boldly prepares. The works of the young artist David Farcaş come together in the “Naturally Conceived” Exhibition at AA Residential Area (1st floor).
Twenty years after he brought digital images and the concept of virtual reality (which he later put into practice) to the Cluj art scene, Adrian Grecu is invited by Nano gallery (1st floor) to create an anniversary project called “Red Rain” .
Andrada Feşnic’s project “Aftermath”, presented at Project Space A + (first floor), brings together a series of overlaps between memory and representation, which succeed in generating a visual resolution similar to the Pavlovian reflex. Through groupings and juxtapositions characteristic of her work, the artist recreates fragments of reality in a puzzle specific to contemporary painting.
Fresh graduate of the University of Art and Design of Cluj and considered a promising young artist, Andrei Ispas presents the painting exhibition “Sky and Earth” at SPACE INTACT Projects (1st floor).
The first installation-performance of the artist Ioana Stanca – “Soft Rituals”, is hosted by the space (1st floor). The artist creates a large, site-specific structure that questions the unique and intimate space of the workshop and the artist’s relationship with it. The installation is completed by the symbolic gestures of the two performers. The event is part of the “Cluj After-School” program, organized by the Sabot Association with the support of the Town Hall and the Cluj-Napoca Local Council.
Also in the evening of October 31, studios of artists residing in the Center of Interest will be open to the public. On the 1st floor the following can be visited: workshop Irina Dumitraşcu Măgurean & Radu Comşa & Stefano Calligaro (“MISHMASH” joint project), workshop Alex Mirutziu (“Because”), workshop Istvan Betuker (“Zoom Closer. Faraway” by artist Pavel Grosu), workshop Reborn Bicycles, workshop Sorin Neamţu & Mihai Plătică, workshop Vlad Olariu; 3rd Floor: Small Patatoes Workshop, Istvan Cimpan Workshop (Urban Survivor Project), Ioana Iacob Workshop (“Project # 1” Project), Razvan Botis Workshop, Smaranda Almăsan Workshop, Sorana Barb Workshop; on the 4th floor: Veres Szabolcs workshop; on the 5th floor: workshop Szilard Gaspar (“Point of view” project with works by Orban Daniela), workshop Belenyi Szabolcs. The series of open projects and workshops is organized by AAFP and is part of the “Made in Cluj: Art Manufactures” program, done with the support of Cluj-Napoca City Hall and Local Council.
