One of the defining features of the works by sculptor Aron Demetz is the rediscovery of the connections between the values of classical culture and the values of contemporary culture. His artistic approach aims at both the specific expressiveness of the used materials and the symbolic meanings of the sculptural figures made. Whether we are talking about works made of bronze, wood, plaster or, sometimes, even clay, we can see a perfect complementarity between the specific properties of the material and the iconographic significance of the plastic subject approached. A particular feature of the artist’s creation is his relational character, which is an element aiming at energizing the classical discipline, thoroughly acquired in many years of study. Regarding this relational character, we notice that Aron Demetz often made exhibitions in which he associated his works with well-known works, in the collections of the museums in which he exhibited, aiming at a subtle process of resignification. One of Aron Demetz’s original ideas is that of coexistence or sometimes symbiosis between different kingdoms.
Having Dr. Dan Breaz as curator, the exhibition “Living Costumes” captures, through the curatorial concept, the fusion of the attributes of the human body with attributes specific to other life forms, such as, for example, that of the plant kingdom. The expressive purpose of these hybridizations is to emphasize the permanence of the vital principle, which always calls for new forms of regeneration. The exhibition “Living Costumes” uses the clothing metaphor to highlight the metamorphosis, considered one of the essential conditions for the perpetuation of life. The permanent change of human appearance, with the passage through different mental or physical ages is one of the conditions for surviving. Therefore, the sculptures successively “put on” new looks, which offer for contemplation an unusual universe of visual signs, commenting upon the adaptive character of the human being.
Through a careful curatorial selection, the exhibition synthesizes the artist’s activity from the last ten years, highlighting an already mature creation, which aims at a continuous improvement of the means of expression.
