Chignon Mignon

Do you know those bags where you have everything, but you can never find anything in them right when you need something? Or those spring or late autumn days… when in the morning, it is cold and in the afternoon the sun comes out and you got yourself on the street carrying in your hand the jacket, the scarf put on in the morning (when there were 5 °C), the laptop bag, the bag “with everything” and the water you bought in the meantime because it was too hot… while, with the other hand, you open your shirt a little because now it’s 20 °C outside and you still have a long way to go until you get home… on the bike!?
Someone thought of a solution that solves those days when the seasons compress into 12 hours and found not only a practical solution, but also an aesthetic one. Because that’s how it suits a designer, to combine the two needs in one answer: Chignon Mignon.

And I wondered where exactly this name came from?

The brand name comes from a story that means a lot to me personally, but it is not a secret, so I am going to tell it to you briefly: when we were young, I, my sister and my cousin who lives in Canada, in the English-French area, we spent a lot of time together during summers. All three of us were wearing turbans on our heads after a shower, and we were saying all sorts of nonsense. This is how we came to the expression chignon mignon which, in fact, means little hair bun in French. I remember this period with great pleasure.

And the logo? It was created in 2016. I usually prefer to work with people who are early in their careers, freelancers or small businesses. That’s why the logo was made by a good friend, Csala Hermina. She is in charge of graphic design and finished college in the same year as me.

If Patricia, the creator of this brand, has found a name with such a funny sound, and still very personal, it is not surprising that what inspires her to create the design of her products is the life around her! Everything that is alive, that is colorful, that is harmonious in lines or proportions, details that not everyone notices and, last but not least, customers ! Very often, the motivation comes from the requests, ideas, needs of customers, from people who want something specific, with quality, full of life. Textiles, colors, always start my fantasy. Or I see a building, a furniture with interesting shapes and I use the design, solutions that I translate into “the language of the bags”. Last but not least, Cluj! The city I live in gives me energy and inspiration with its vibrations, so I can create everyday.

What is unique about your products?
If we talk only about handmade accessories made in Romania, today you can find thousands of types of bags on the market. But how do you identify yourself with one bag better than the other? In addition to the colors and materials used, it is important for me, as a creator, to give the customer the opportunity to think a little about the accessory: What exactly does he need? How many pockets? Where? What colors and textures does the client prefer? I always keep the well-thought-out details, the shapes, the brand marks, the use of quality materials and next to them, I leave room for customers to add something extra.

If she was to choose a favorite created object, that would be the roll-up backpack and it’s not just her favorite object, the customers also appreciate this invention, which perfectly matches the situation I described at the beginning of the article: Usually because I carry many things when I have to leave the house: laptops, necessary accessories, water, a scarf and other important things that we use every day. When I return home, I also buy food or maybe it’s a lot warmer and I don’t want to carry a jacket in my hand… That’s why I felt the need for a bag that adapts: I can make it smaller if I want, or more roomy, but in the same time remains comfortable, suitable also for riding a bicycle or a scooter. Obviously, it has to represent me! This product is the roll-top backpack, my favorite and not only mine😊.

The Chignon Mignon brand message? The Chignon Mignon brand is growing slowly. We do not give up quality for quantity! As I said before, it is important to pay attention to each customer who orders a custom bag. For this, we need to communicate more with each other. With this gesture we want to slow down the rolling of days, and we are happy when we see that many people share this way of looking at things.
