I think the last year has made us all understand what the idea of well-being means, whether we are talking about people, about clothes, food, holidays, art or our own home. This is because the last year, which will be forever remembered as NOPE, kept us closer to our homes. Whether this home is a small house or a large one, an uncomfortable apartment or a loft, a house with noisy neighbors or secluded in the middle of the fir trees, it still stays for a home. In the end, many of us have started to think pragmatically: if we are forced to stay at home more than in other places (remote workers, I know you feel me), then why not turn our nest into a place… you know, like the ones that made us frantically book an airbnb regardless of the price, when traveling was still an option :). And now ask me: how do we turn our own home, which is now “at work” and at home, into an exceptional place? Read on, please!
What was the naming process? How come, eyeful?
I think it came out of the need to create something “tangible”.
I was once at a print shop and there I met a former colleague from the design faculty and I remember how we were both holding some prints in our hands, him some business cards and I was checking some color layouts, and he goes “doesn’t it frustrate you that what we produce is not something palpable? That everything is a virtual suite of 1 and 0?”… At that time I didn’t thought much about it, but if I still remember it then it must have mattered.
So eyeful (I like to write it in lower case, it looks better) was born out of the desire to create something that can be held in your hands and can be looked at not just through a monitor 🙂
And the logo? You created it, right?
Honestly it came out easily, so to speak. I created it the same day I received the name for which I will always be grateful to Mircea! https://www.facebook.com/mirceascrie. I knew I wanted something simple, without any graphic sign, because the name says it all. The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition is – “a completely satisfying view”. There was no need for more. Whether I put it on the site, on social media or on packages, it looks great!
I know you have a lot of experience in many design areas, but eyeful still seems different than what you’ve been doing so far, what’s the story behind it?
As I said earlier, it has to do with the desire to do something different from my computer design routine. I like to manage my brand away form the computer, making packages, talking to the clients. Although I have my own brand of graphic design, for which I spent years of training, what I`m doing with eyeful is very different. Every new business comes with new challenges. As a designer it`s just me and myself, but with the eyeful brand I have to interact more with people, I grow new contacts with very different fields and so on. This was a business designed along with my sister and I hope that at some point, it will become big enough to make it a family business 🙂
If I had to choose a picture for my house from your catalog, it would be hard for me to chose one as they are all very beautiful! So help me, what’s your favorite?
Hm… hard question. We had to make a selection from some catalogs full of beautiful things and even now I am not convinced that I chose well, because it was hard to eliminate some of the items and at the same time, taking into consideration what the clients might like. But if I would really had to choose, I would think of the Fauna collection, a blue bird with a long tail – Pica. I really like this one`s color, it is the closest to my aesthetic preferences http://eyeful.ro/product/pica/ .
What is the brand`s message?
“A completely satisfying view.” We want to go with this message regardless of whether the portfolio will remain as it is or should we think of other products in the future. We want them to be beautiful things that you like to look at and enjoy it every time.
What do you think your products offer in addition on the current home deco / interior design market?
First of all, there is currently no similar product on local market. You might find some poppies or some roses through home deco or DIY stores, but not something that will take you to this premium area, as we want.
Talking to people in the field, I came to the conclusion that maybe the “market” is not yet fully prepared for this kind of product, but this year, for example, the wallpaper is increasingly appreciated, especially the ones portraying abundant nature and exotic plants in strong colors. So we hope to reach as many people as possible who “see” the product and know how to cherish it.
Where do we find your products?
Very simple 🙂 Last year’s lock down served as time and concentration to complete the online shop and social media pages.
